Pumpkins (Boatie Style) w/video

Source: Damariscottapumpkinfest.com
Forget carving that lame old Jack-O’-Lantern for halloween; boaties turn pumpkins into boats.  If you're picturing little toy boats, then you are thinking too small.  Damariscotta, Maine is home to an annual Pumpkinfest and Regatta where they hollow out and marinize 500+ pound pumpkins and then take them racing.  There are two classes of racers, those who prefer to row their own pumpkins and the powerboat class.  The powerboat class is for the individual that believes God severely shortchanged the goliath pumpkin by confining it to a landlocked, immobile existence.  There is something inspiring about seeing a Mercury outboard attached to a pumpkin’s transom (yes, I just said “pumpkin’s transom).  Check out a video that this year’s power-pumpkin race winner, Topher Mallory, made after the jump. While you watch the video I’ll be out shopping for a bigger pumpkin.
