We have already seen the massive displays of marinized power the engineers at Ilmor Marine are capable of producing in their MV10 aluminum block viper engine (that’s viper as in Dodge Viper).  So earlier this month when MasterCraft and Ilmor jointly announced the release of Ilmor’s newest addition to their already impressive lineup, we knew it was going to be a game changer.  Ilmor’s MV8 7.4L engine is capable of producing 522 naturally aspirated horsepower all while producing 70% fewer emissions than its competitors.  That puts the 7.4L at the top of it’s class in performance and emissions.  I love how the Ilmor Engineer president, Paul Ray, describes how they made plans for the engine, “We wrote down all the metrics of the competitive engines and then decided how much we wanted to beat them by.”  So why was the announcement made jointly with MasterCraft?  Because the latest MasterCraft X-Star will be powered by Ilmor’s engineering masterpiece.  In fact, the engine was born from a request by MasterCraft for a higher performance engine.
