Leave it to those burly New Zealanders to decide racing a car through a tree laden forest wasn’t dangerous enough and inventing a sport like sprint boat racing. Originally, the races were run through the braided rivers of New Zealand; the sport has since evolved to be run through a maze of 3 foot deep, manmade ditches. The boats are raced up to 80mph through the straights, and can produce 3 to 7 times the force of gravity throughout the turns. The lower class race boats use small block engines to produce around 650hp; plenty of horses on tap to power through those tight turns. There is also an “unlimited” class that can see horse powers as high as 1500hp. One driver, Kyle Patrick, says of the unlimited class boats, “It’s crazy, but I still want one.” Me too Kyle, me too. Check out the video after the break.
